Obituary of John Goodwin Bowen
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Goodwin Bowen on June 24th, 2024 in his 84th year peacefully at McCormick Home, surrounded by many who loved and adored him. Beloved husband of Carole of 59 years. Devoted and loving father of Jennifer, Jill, and Suzanne. Cherished “Poppy” of grandchildren Natalie and Nicholas. Brother of Nancy Rodger. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Richard and Margaret Bowen, sister Susan Sanderson (Don) and brother-in-law Dr. William Rodger.
John’s life was defined by love, compassion, and a deep devotion to his family and friends. His beloved pets were constant companions, bringing him comfort and joy throughout the years. John lived a life committed to helping others, and spent many years volunteering at the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Hospitality Centre serving meals to those in need. He was a recipient of the St. John Life Saving Medal, presented by the Governor General of Canada, for his courageous act of saving a man's life. During retirement, John and his cherished wife, Carole, shared a passion for travel, embarking on memorable journeys across Canada from east coast to west coast and making two unforgettable road trips to Alaska. He was a man whose selflessness knew no bounds, and whose every action was guided by a profound love for his family. John will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
To honour John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family “Celebration of Life” has been held. The Bowen family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on Evergreen Walk of McCormick Home for the incredible care, compassion, and support provided to John and his family.
