Obituary of Helena Maria Toonders
HELENA MARIA (WITLOX) TOONDERS
MARCH 13th, 1936 – SEPTEMBER 20th, 2023
Helen peacefully passed away surrounded by her family at home. She’ll be greatly missed by her life partner, Ted to whom she was married to for 67 years. She leaves a strong legacy of 7 children; Joan (Hugo), Matt (Kathy), Bob (Elaine), Mike (Georgina), Mary, Ron, Karen (Mike), 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by her parents, Marie & Mathys Witlox, her siblings, JoAnn, Ed (Lillian), John (Eileen), brother-in-law Tony Sireon in addition to many other family and friends. Survived by her sisters, Ann (John) Kavelaars, Corrie Sireon and brother Keith (Marie)and brother-in-law Jacobus Wolfs. Family is what mattered most to Helen who would always sacrifice and put the needs of her children ahead of her own. Helen dedicated much of her life to service; to those in need, the church and her community as a 50+ year member of the CWL and as a eucharistic minister. She and Ted worked tirelessly for years on their farms until they embraced the pleasures of the Cherryhill community and it’s lifestyle for the past 26 years. In her prime Helen was quite the crafter, loving to sew, knit and paper tole. Even more she has always had such a green thumb with beautiful flowers and plants as part of the centre of her home. God and family were her whole heart and these gifts and legacy ripple on. Helen’s family cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible care she received with special thanks to Dr. Onankwo, the Palliative Care team lead by Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Jill, in addition to the VON caregivers. A special thank you to Helen’s sister, Corrie for her daily assistance and support.
