Obituary of Mary Yvonne Irma Heggtveit
HEGGTVEIT, MARY YVONNE IRMA (Myers)
Peacefully at her home, surrounded by love, Mary Heggtveit (nee Myers) passed on April 18, 2021 at the age of 72.
Beloved wife of Gilbert (Gib) Heggtveit of 45 years
Born in a logging camp cabin in White River, Ontario on Christmas Eve, 1948, Mary was the eldest child and much loved daughter of Cecile Vaughan (nee Gobeil) and the late Lloyd Myers.
Mary was the cherished sister of the late Preston Myers of Meaford, the late Stephen Myers (Lisa) of Thunder Bay, Frank Myers (Beverley) of St. Andrews, N.B., and Irene McGuire (late David) of Clarksburg. Sister-in-law to Abby Heggtveit (Wyatt Grant). Mary loved to be kept informed of all the goings-on in her family and would laugh and cry wholeheartedly when reminiscing. She was a generous and enthusiastic supporter of all her siblings and their families’ achievements and life experiences.
To her many nieces and nephews she was “dear Aunt Mary” and will be fondly remembered by them all.
Mary enjoyed helping her husband Gib with their real estate business. Mary was genuinely interested in the clients and associates they met over the years. She had a special gift for making people feel comfortable and open up about what was important to them. Everyone liked Mary.
As a child Mary developed an interest in sewing and fell in love with fabrics. At 18 her craft was recognized in a national Singer sewing competition. Mary then enrolled in fashion design at Ryerson College, and later in life followed up with furniture upholstering. Mary loved to research and collect beautiful things - from English roses, jewellery, and silver serving dishes to fine vintage and antique furnishings. Sitting quietly with her nose in a book and watching old romantic movies were favourite past times. Mary would laugh and say she felt “eccentric”. We all agree it was part of her charm.
